Why would a moderator approach you after only four games!!!!!???

I was online last night playing gears of war 2 for the first time in multiplayer (other than the system link party my cousin invited me to a few weeks ago). I'm not that good at the game but it's still pretty fun because of the different game types. I had played a grand total of four online games (two gaurdian matches and two execution matches). Then I had a match that was extremely laggy. It was like everyone was playing with their feet... I ran around killed everyone the other team... next round popped up and everyone lagged out. Well I got a message from a guy saying he was a moderator and that I was going to be banned for standbying... I had never even heard about standby till this time and from the looks of things you have to have a router to do this... Well I don't and i actually have to run a 50ft. ether net cable to my room to play xbox live... and I can't be on the comp and xbox live at the same time. This was the first time this had ever happened. Does anyone think I will be banned for it. If anyone has any information please send me an email at william.buckman@amec.com... Thanks
