Batting Averages going down in recent seasons?

Since the homerun became the most important aspect of the game ( In the minds of the Executives who run the show ) and the players became "guessers" and not pure hitters, you will probably never see a guy winning a batting title with more than .360 not to mention .400. Those guys like Rod Carew,Roberto Clemente,George Brett,Ted Williams,Willie Mays, Hank Aaron were pure hitters, artists of hitting. Very seldom anybody saw them striking out looking on a ball on their hitting range, because when you are batting with two strikes on a possible RBI situation you are supposed to make contact, not to hit a homer, but to drive the ball. I am glad that I grow up watching the players from the '50s and '60s because I believe that for some of our recent "stars," it would be way uphill to play that kind of baseball.
