Can i fix my trackball on my sidekick lx.? please help.!?

I dont want to go into tmobile myself and get it cleaned/fixed to make it work so is there anyway i can do it myself.? Ive tried the alcohol with the q tip thing but so far it only sped up the trackball slightly but iwant it to work like before. It works fine going every other way except down and i can still click with it but any good useful tips that actually work.? Ive also tried wit a needle to pick out any gunk. Ive got alot out but stil nothing.
