Does university attendance drop off noticeably in the middle and end of a semester?

I am at a mid-sized university and I am aware of the statistic that only 45% of college students do graduate after four years. Regardless if the fact is wrong or changed in anyway, is there a noticeable difference in the amount of people that do go to school towards the end of a semester??
