Is My Dog Hurt? I was cleaning his ears and he kinda screamed twice. Now there is what I think is blood in?

So my dog has been scratching his ear like crazy so I have been attempting to clean it with just a cotton ball and some water. I got some stuff out. I bought ear cleaner today and a lot of it came out. My gma saw it and she is like "THAT IS DRY BLOOD" but it looked brown not red. I am color blind but I can see the color of blood. I looked in his ear today and it looks what there is like to be blood. My gma said he looked like he was in pain and now he is moping around and being quiet. He has never been to a vet and I am worried on how much it would cost to get this checked out and/or treated. I live In canada if that is any help. PLEASE HELP!
